Andrew Molera State Park: A walk-in campground with 24 sites available on a first-come, first-served basis. A maximum of four people per site is allowed. Park the car and walk a third of a mile to the camping area in a beautiful meadow. Containing 4,800 acres, Andrew Molera State Park is located in the spectacular Big Sur Area. The Big Sur River runs through the park. Miles of trails wind through meadows, beaches and hilltops. The area is still relatively undeveloped and offers great hiking opportunities as well as fishing, horseback riding and beachcombing. The park is located 20 miles south of Carmel on Highway One. Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park: Hike-in environmental campsites. Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park stretches from the Big Sur coastline into nearby 3,000-foot ridges. The park features redwood, tan oak, madrone, chaparral, and an 80-foot waterfall, McWay Falls, that drops from granite cliffs into the ocean from the Overlook Trail. A panoramic view of the ocean and miles of rugged coastline is available from the higher elevations along the trails east of Highway 1. Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park: 204 sites, picnic tables, hiking and swimming. Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park has 1006 acres of redwoods, conifers, oaks, sycamores, cottonwoods, maples, alders and willows - plus open meadows. Wildlife includes deer, raccoons, skunks, and birds, such as water ouzels and belted kingfishers. Hikers can enjoy the many scenic loops, including a self-guided nature loop. Valley View Trail provides spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the Big Sur Valley. The scenic Big Sur River courses through the park and the campgrounds are nearby. Prewitt Ridge: There are at least a dozen existing sites along Coast Ridge road. Be very careful in clearing a camp, using a stove or building a campfire. Fire restrictions are high in this fragile area. Fire permits are required at any time of the year and sometimes fires are banned altogether.From Coast Highway 1, across the street from Kirk Creek Campground, take Naciemiento Ferguson Road up the mountain 7 miles to the main dirt road crossing. (before the ranger station) Turn right on Coast Ridge Trail #20S05 and continue 5 miles to the right uphill turn and onto the ridge area. Campspots are dirtroad dead ends with small clearings. Fire restrictions are posted at the beginning of the dirt road entrance.

Ventana campground: reknowned for its private sites, located in a secluded redwood lined canyon along Post Creek. There are 80 campsites situated on the canyon floor and in various side canyons and along the ridges. Each site is complete with a picnic table, adjustable fire ring, and drinking water is near all sites. In addition, Ventana Campground also has three bath houses with hot showers and is heavily forested with coast redwood trees. Beaches and hiking trails are within a 10 minute drive.
