Trees Cut at Pfeiffer
Trees along the Big Sur River in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park are toppling to
make way for two long-delayed bridge projects that are part of the park's
1999 master plan. The work includes cleaning up the entrance to the park;
other areas to avoid disturbing the giant trees; widening and improving
roads; and putting in a walk bridge, a vehicle bridge and a right-turn lane at
the park entrance off Highway 1 south of Big Sur Village.
trees and tanbark oaks. A brochure available at the park gate describes the project improvements as "a new vehicle
bridge, a new, permanent pedestrian bridge, a new entrance kiosk, improved parking in the day-use areas and new
trails and interpretive facilities." The project should be finished later this year.
