right here on the coast the fog rolls in every summer and usually hangs r around until September. July is the foggiest month. Winters are
great, rainiest month is usually January. Fall is perfect and Spring is usually quite
windy. It is hot inland in summer, on the other side of the coast range.
The median home price is in the $500,000 range, coastal real estate is usually higher. Inland to Paso Robles, Templeton, Creston area
is more affordable. On the coast,
Los Osos is cheaper but they have a sewer issue. South county, Arroyo Grande area is cheaper but less
desirable.

Hi Deci,
My husband and I met you and Charlie on our way up the coast a few months ago. We have a few questions. Is it always foggy there, and
when is the foggiest time? Also, is it possible to purchase a home in the $300,000 range that is not a condo? Here in New York, the cost of
living is lower but taxes are higher. We love your website!

Hi, Deci...Thank you so much for answering my questions! I'm still looking at your site, still haven't taken it all in yet, its wonderful!!

Ed wanted me to ask you about the Monterey/Pacific Grove/Watsonville area-Are there any major industries besides farming or
tourism? We like the entire coastline but Ed is a charter captain and he would find it difficult to move to an area that doesn't have fishing.
Also we need to move to an area that has work--I'm not ready to retire yet.  Again, thank you so much for the feedback,
Sharon and Ed

P.S. Happy jade hunting, wish I were there--our temperature is 28* and we're trying to stay warm by the woodstove.

I will admit that my personal knowledge north of Big Sur is pretty scanty. I am providing some useful links at left.
Morro Bay is still an active fishing port, but as I am sure you know, the fishing industry is facing many limitations. What about other
avenues relating to tourism, such as sport-fishing boats, whale-watching,etc.? Are there opportunities with environmental and research
groups? This is still a maritime environment and I would imagine there is always a need for experienced captains.
From what I understand, they are still ironing out the limitations and restrictions relating to our areas inclusion in The Monterey Bay
National Marine Sanctuary.

Nice website, but you don't mention the old san Simeon
village?? That is
San Simeon proper ... The other historic landmark of SS is
there: The Sebastian Store, The old school house, and several Julia Morgan
structures. The history of the place is rich .. more than meets the eye.
The San Simeon motel strip popped up in the fifties after the
Castle opened to the public. The village dates date to the 1880's .. even
farther if you go into the village out on SS point that supported the
whaling history.

Sebastian's Store in San Simeon

Kelly, I am sorry you could not find what you were looking for on our San
Simeon page. I have written about the old San Simeon village and Sebastian's
Store on both our
San Simeon Cove page and our page about Whales. I will
make this link easier on the site. Thank you for pointing it out.  Deci
