All of these Monarch shots were taken at the Pismo Beach Grove using a
Canon Rebil Xti and a 300mm lens.  All the shots were handheld using
natural lighting and using late afternoon light.
Each year, thousands of Monarch butterflies overwinter on California's
Central Coast. To learn about their incredible migration, visit our butterfly
page.
The vivid contrast of orange wings against green eucalyptus is a natural
invitation to any photographer. All of the photographs on this page were
taken by Darrell Shurtz of
San Simeon. Darrell teaches photography at
Coast Union High School in
Cambria, and is a frequent contributor to our
Crystaline Cove website.
