Cambria is a quaint, picturesque village (pop. 7000) located
just south of
San Simeon on California's Central Coast.
Located in a large grove of rare Monterey Pine, downtown
Cambria is crammed with art galleries and antique stores.
But its real treasures are found on its beaches and along its
coastal bluffs.
Moonstone Drive follows the coast at the north end of town to
historic Leffingwell Landing. A lengthy
wheelchair-accessible boardwalk affords beautiful views of
the beach and ample opportunity to photograph wildlife.
Many species of birds are seen here, as well as harbor
seals and dolphins. Humpback and gray
whales can often
be spotted on the horizon.
Moonstones litter the pebbly beach, along with small bits of
jade.
The Fiscalini Ranch Preserve, located south of Shamel Park off Windsor Blvd., is another beautiful area with coastal bluff
trails and pristine beaches. The Fiscalini Ranch is spectacular in the spring when the
wildflowers are in bloom.
